Who We Are

The Bow Chasers were founded in 1987 as the women’s sailing group of the Clearwater Yacht Club. In addition to our sailing program, we sponsor various social activities. Any woman in the club may belong to our group regardless of her interest in sailing, but it is imperative that she wants to have fun! We have affectionately been called “The Ladies with the Itty Bitty Boats and the Great Big Parties!

What We Do

We have an excellent sailing program from novice, intermediate and experienced sailors. The Bow Chasers offer an educational program, so that beginning sailors feel secure before taking the next step in their training. When new sailors are comfortable with the prams, they move on to racing. Our Race Captain organizes racing and fun sailing events throughout the season. Training, safety, and fun are the ultimate goals of our program. We begin rigging the prams on Tuesdays, September through May, at 9:30 a.m. and are on the water by 10:00 a.m. Following sailing, we meet in the Grille Room for lunch. Social/non-sailing members are always welcome to come and watch the races or to join us for lunch.

We are an active member of FWSA, a group of women’s sailing groups in the Tampa Bay/Sarasota area. The Bow Chasers participate in interclub racing with these clubs. FWSA sponsors the annual Rainbow Regatta for Sunfish & Prams as well as a Championship Regatta for crewed boats.

Bowchaser members are also volunteers for our Race Committee. Many members participate by helping out with CYC regattas (on both land and sea) and provide assistance in running some of the world-class racing regattas that have made a name for the Clearwater Yacht Club.

We have a number of social events throughout the year for members and also events for members and their spouses/significant others. These are usually held in the evenings in member’s homes.
