RS Yachts Regatta – April 3 – 7, 2018
Clark Mills Regatta – April 21, 2018
The Yachting Season Is Upon Us & We Need Your Help!
The 2018 yachting regatta season is in the process of gearing up and your participation in these club sponsored events is greatly appreciated by your Yachting Committee. There are two main events this year where Race Committee Volunteers (Waterside & Landside) will be needed to continue the CYC tradition of putting on profitable, professionally recognized national regattas. The 2018 Laser Midwinter regatta (February 21 through the 25th) and the 2018 Snipe Class 80th Midwinter Championship Regatta (March 18 through the 20th).
The Laser regatta typically requires 50 volunteers for all four days of racing (2/22 – 2/25 & 8:30 to 5:00) to cover waterside duties which includes being able to be out on the gulf running the Laser Class sanction races. The waterside race committee members will help on 14 boats covering primarily race course management and safety.
The landside group typically requires 15 volunteers daily who will support the regatta by assisting with registration on Wednesday, February 21st and with safety administration and the distributing of food and water for the next 4 days (2/22 through 2/25) of racing. All landside support will be at the Clearwater Community Sailing Center. We need volunteers to help on all 5 days. There will be three shifts of volunteers for the 4 days of racing.
- 7:30am: Be at CYC to help get coffee made and bring to sailing center.
- 8:00am – Noon: At Clearwater Community Sailing Center putting out food, cleaning up and getting ready for after racing
- 1:00pm – 5:00pm: At sailing center to put out food, serve hot soup, cleanup and get ready for next day.
Members who may be interested in learning more about the basics of Race Management are invited to attend CYC’s (at no cost) Race Management 103 Course being held in at the club on February 10 (Saturday) beginning at 9:30 and typically lasting to noon. The club will provide some light snacks & drinks. If you are interested in attending the race management course please call Virginia (club office) to make a reservation.
If you are interested in helping with the Laser Race Committee “WATERSIDE” please contact Dave Yoder at DMY71@aol.com. Any specific questions about waterside support you can contact Dave at 727.902.0178.
If you are interested in helping with the Laser Race Committee “LANDSIDE” please contact Lynne Shackelford at email@example.com. Any specific questions about landside support you can contact Lynne 770.377.6831.
If you live near the Club and can provide a bedroom and bathroom for a Judge or two please contact Dick Boblenz at firstname.lastname@example.org or 727-461-5488. We will have 12 Judges and at least 9 are from out of town. They usually do not want any food or drink – just a place to sleep and clean up and are very appreciative. Plus by reducing housing costs saves some money.
Thank you to our members for your support!
