Indian Rocks Family Sailing Association began back in 2001 thanks to Calvary Episcopal Church Indian Rocks Beach, Pinellas Suncoast Fire and Rescue and a dedicated group of local business and civic leaders who wanted to offer an affordable opportunity for local kids to learn basic sailing. From a small one week program with 15 kids, we’ve grown to a year round program with over 100 kids and adults.
In 2013, we became an independent 501(c) (3) and now offer our programs at Clearwater Yacht Club as well as Calvary Episcopal Church. Our commitment to “affordable family sailing” remains unchanged.
Come Sail With Us! We offer a variety of opportunities to learn to sail and we do so year round. Our programs are open to children and adults (ages 7 +). For more information, and to be added to our emailing list, please contact our Program Director at (727) 510-6153 or by email: email@example.com.
A Note About Graduation July 2015!
Heavy rains mixed with thunder and lightning didn’t stop the Intrepid Sailors of Session Two and their families from an outstanding Graduation Day on Friday, July 23! With nearly 100 in attendance, the Dry Dock was a bit crowded, but our Youth Sailors and Camp Staff worked together with Dockmaster Lori, Assistant Dockmaster Dan, and Tom Brusini and his amazing staff to ensure that there was just enough room for them to demonstrate the fine arts of knot tying and line heaving along with an exciting round of “Sailing Jeopardy” questions, which left all the adults more than impressed by the skill levels achieved among our young sailors.
At 11:15am, the kids lined up for a graduation march to the music of “Anchors Aweigh.” Each child stood front and center to receive a graduation medal, and when all medals were presented, the morning concluded with a final “intrepid sailor cheer” followed immediately by hot-dogs and water melon.
Session 2 may have been forced to contend with some challenging weather conditions, but at its heart there were many days of excellent sailing, racing, lots of fun, amazing team work, and the development of new friendships.
